Handshake speeds?

Post by crwilli57 »

I am having difficulty with my M21 connecting with the Ethernet output of a Sonore Optical module that is being fed by a fiber connection.

Can the M21 handle 1GbPS network speeds the Sonore operates at? That same connection works fine to a windows PC.

this would not seem to be the reason, i am using a gigabit ( 1000 Mbps) router wired direct with 50' of cat6 solid core installation wire. i suggest connecting it directly to the router and see if you have the same problem? most newer router and switches are gigabit speed so it does not seem this is the issue and it should support any device on the network and be compatible with 10/100/1000 standards. I run up to 4 of our streamers at one time, and typically 2 off the same router and PC with 100 Mbps port on it.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply. My M21 works fine connected via Ethernet cable through a Gigafoil V4 from my Edge Router X-SFP. It just doesn’t ‘see’ the same when I use the fiber output to a Sonore Optical Module which converts it to An Ethernet signal connected to the M21. There is no handshake.

That same connection works fine to a PC.

Hello- I use Bricasti M12 in the following combination. Gigabit Router->Ether Green Switch->Bricasti M12. I use Audirvana installed in a Mac Mini as the streamer. Whenever I reboot the Ether Green Switch, Audirvana almost always fails to detect Bricasti M12 as the player. I need to reboot the remaining two components (Bricasti M12 & Mac Mini) to get the Bricasti M12 unit back in service. I don't understand why. Once Bricasti M12 is connected, the connection remains stable for the most part excluding a few occasional ethernet blips which goes away either automatically or by recycling Audirvana software on the Mac Mini. Since I reboot Ether Green very very infrequently this is not an issue for me. My router is also not a Fiber Optics router.
Like yours, Audirvana is always able to detect Bricasti M12 when it is connected straight to the router.
So you could try rebooting your router, Bricasti M21 DAC and the machine that hosts your streamer to see if the connectivity issue goes away.
Good luck troubleshooting it.
Thanks.

I can point out that the router creates the IP addresses and controls the data flow in the network, everything passes via it, if it does not find the M21 ( actually M12 ) to assign it one, it will not work. It works directly to the router so its not an issue of speed and the router not finding it and assigning an address and not an issue with the streamer in the M21. I suggest that with a windows PC to look at the network and see if you can find all devices on the network this is the first thing i do if i find there is an issue with the app not finding the streamer in one of our products. What does the status show on the M21? if it shows OFF then there is no network present, if its appearing and then disappearing in the app it could be there is more than one device creating IP addresses? we have seen this happen. In my setup i have one line that goes to a switch for extra ports, and a direct line which is preferred but i never have to reset them.

Brian- This makes a total sense. If we add a component between Bricasti M12/21 and the router then we have to get into managing this IP assignment game... In my case the audiophile switch Ether Green significantly enhances the system performance and given that the switch reboot is extremely rare I don't mind the little management overhead. Otherwise I would connect Bricasti M12 directly to the router.
But I agree that this issue is not related to Bricasti M12/21 and the IP assignment issue could be resolved by carefully managing the IP assignment confusion.
Thanks.
