Firmware Updates
Firmware Updates
I want to ask about Bricasti's process for firmware updates. When a firmware update becomes available for a device, how is it communicated to customers? And how is the update process typically done - by the customer, the dealer, or the factory? Or perhaps over the network? Thank you.

Re: Firmware Updates
One of the reasons for creating this forum is a way to let our users ask us questions like this and for us to be able to inform them if thing like updates and upgrades to the products and to have more contact with our users. In the past we have upgraded the software in the M1 other products with a user upgrade based pre programmed flash chip that is inserted into the main processor board on the product, this has proven to be very easy for users to use so we have continued with this method with the MDx processor, it is easy to do and proven to be reliable. Although it might be possible to implement some type of USB based upgrade path this gets a bit more complex as this would then depend on a computer an app of sorts, all for the relatively small number of users we have. For example the early M1s did not have a USB, or now with the network interface most do not have that, so for now we will stay with our proven way to upgrade the products. In some cases there is what you might call firmware that needs to be upgraded, this is not something a user can do and why the product might have to be returned to the factory for reprogramming and complete upgrade, and maybe implement hardware changes as well. When we have a upgrade for a product that is deemed useful for everyone upgrade to, meaning new feature of correcting and operational issue we can create a posting about it. i should be noted that we may make revisions that are are production related and not feature related enhancements.

Re: Firmware Updates
Hi Brian,
I have an M3 that is currently on MDX 1.04 firmware. I have seen online references to 1.06 firmware. How do I go about taking advantage of this new firmware if it exists?
Thanks,
Chad

Re: Firmware Updates
there is really no need to upgrade as there would be no functional changes. note that the MDX version # also encompasses changes to other products like the M1 M12 M21. so if a change is made for another product, it may have no effect on another one as its one body of code for all. So if the M3 is operating correctly then you can just stay with that version, 1.06 does not change anything for the M3 vs 1.04. However, the early version, 1.00 can present an issue with start up, and anyone with that version should contact us about an upgrade.

Re: Firmware Updates
Hello! I own an M1 with USB running firmware v.1.17 and I’m having issues playing DSD128 over PCM. The source I’m using is Innuos Zenith mk3 via USB. Is there a newer firmware version for the my M1 version? I’m from Barcelona; Spain. How could I have access to the updated firmware? Many thanks! Xavi (xavi_gil@hotmail.com)

Re: Firmware Updates
Are you able to play DSD 64? DSD is sent as DoP. Since that M1 and that revision is from 2014 you should upgrade the M1 to the last revision for the hardware in your M1, but i have to say i really dont know for sure if 1.17 supports DSD 128 or not, its been a while. please send an email to service@bricasti.com and we let you know about getting it upgraded and it would be helpful to have a serial # as well.

Re: Firmware Updates
Hi Brian, thanks for the ultra-quick response. Indeed, I can play DSD 64 over PCM from the innuos. I’ll make couple of more tests and send you an email eith my findings and all details about my unit. Again, thanks for your help!
